House of English combines certified English teaching, cultural immersion, and creative homestay experiences in a warm family environment by the sea.
Led by Randolph and Sjoukje Matthews, House of English is designed for independent international teenagers aged 16+ who want to live the language, not simply study it.
Based in Folkestone on England’s beautiful south coast.
Who We Are
We are certified English teachers, creatives, and international professionals with a shared love for language, travel, music, culture, and human connection.
Sjoukje is a multilingual speaker of English, French, German, Italian, and Dutch. She has worked internationally as a model and within the emotional well-being sector, bringing warmth, elegance, and cultural understanding into every experience.
Randolph is an international vocalist, composer, and founder of Voice Movement Immersion, specialising in authentic expression, confidence, communication, and creativity.
Together, we have travelled and worked in over 40 countries with people, organisations, artists, and global brands including L’Oréal and Nivea.
At House of English, students experience far more than language lessons. They experience confidence, culture, creativity, and genuine connection.

A Curated English Immersion Experience
At House of English, we combine TEFL-informed English learning with curated cultural, creative, and conversational experiences designed to help students grow in confidence, communication, and real-world English fluency.
Students experience:
• Total English immersion in daily life • Certified English teaching personalised to each student • Small group or one-to-one learning • Cultural excursions and guided exploration • Creative experiences through music, storytelling, film, and conversation • A calm, safe, and inspiring home environment • Daily English speaking practice in real situations • Supportive mentoring and confidence building
Alongside Randolph and Sjoukje’s immersive hosting, students may also meet local creatives, educators, artists, chefs, and cultural practitioners who bring additional depth and inspiration to the experience.

Accomodation
Your English Home Away From Home
Students stay in our comfortable family home in Folkestone, close to the sea and local amenities.
We intentionally keep our hosting small and personal, usually welcoming only 1–3 students at a time.
Accommodation includes:
• Comfortable bedroom • Home-cooked meals • Safe and supportive atmosphere • Shared family spaces • WiFi access • Easy access to transport and local attractions

We primarily host mature and independent students aged 16+.
Are the lessons certified?
Yes. Both Randolph and Sjoukje are certified English teachers.
How many students do you host?
We intentionally keep the experience small and personal, usually hosting between 1–3 students at a time.

Yes. Home-cooked meals are included during the stay.
Do students need to speak strong English already?
No. We adapt to different levels and help students grow naturally through immersion and support.
Do you organise excursions?
Yes. Excursions and cultural experiences are part of the programme.
